When the Primm family moves into the house on East 88th street, they are amazed to find a crocodile soaking in their tub. Almost at once the gentle (and talented!) Lyle the Crocodile wins their hearts, just as the Lyle, Lyle Crocodile books have won the hearts of generations of readers.
The internationally acclaimed series is now featured in an HBO Storytime Musical and a nationally touring musical.
In 2014 the Yorkville Community School on East 88th Street was designated as a Literary Landmark, honoring both Bernard Waber and Lyle. "Like Lyle," the plaque reads, "Bernard Waber loved children and all things New York."
